Welcome to the Human Services Financial Health Professional Certification Program. This online course is one of several online components in this program. The topic of this course is Recovering from the Economic Effects of Trauma, Mental Illness and Substance Abuse.
This course will help you to recognize and understand the dynamic effects that trauma, mental illness, and substance abuse can have on a person’s financial and economic well-being. It will provide you with suggestions for how to work with the tools you’ve learned and skills you’ve gained in prior courses in this program.
After taking this course, you’ll be able to:
- Recognize the impact of childhood trauma on mental health, financial health, and well-being into adulthood
- Identify the costs and other impacts of mental illness and substance abuse, especially with regard to employment and education
- Recognize the way trauma experienced in adulthood can impact personal economics
- Describe the impact of financial stress and economic trauma on clients
- Apply the basics of a trauma-informed approach in your work with clients
- Use the ABC model to understand the varied impacts of trauma, mental illness, and substance abuse, and use various tools to support recovery and resilience in clients.
This course is longer than most prior courses in this program, because of the extent of the material it covers, so it has been divided into four modules that take between 20 and 25 minutes each.
