Welcome to the Human Services Financial Health Professional Certification Program. This online course is one of several online components in this program. The topic of this course is The Context of Poverty. 

In this course, we’ll discuss the complex context that our clients living in poverty are living within, which makes it difficult to work toward change. We’ll emphasize the fact that all people, regardless of their situations, have value and deserve compassion and outstanding service.

After taking this course, you’ll be able to

  • Define poverty and describe how it is measured
  • Identify different points of view about the causes of poverty
  • Identify the complex factors that make up the ecosystem of poverty that clients are living within
  • Think critically about your place within “the system” that clients must navigate
  • Apply this information to your work with clients through reflection on a case example
