HSFHP Section One: Working with Goals

Welcome to the Human Services Financial Health Professional Certification Program. There are several components to this section, including a video, an online course, and a Reflection Workbook. The main topic of this section is Working with Goals. We’ll discuss SMART goals, barriers, motivation, opportunity cost, and aligning your clients' goals with your agency's expectations. 

By the end of this section, you’ll be able to:

• Create realistic, attainable, measurable goals for yourself

• Work with your clients to set SMART goals 

• Better understand your clients’ motivations for change

• Work with your clients to address barriers and overcome resistance to achieving their goals 

• Explain the concept of opportunity cost to clients and how it impacts their goal-setting process
